Achieve Your Own High-End Outdoor Space With The Aid Of Water Fountains

by Wyatt Fisk

Building, fitting and furnishing your personal outdoor space can be a difficult process. Let's say that you already have your plants and outdoor furnishings in their respective places; after awhile you would notice that something is lacking, and then you'll eventually realize that you don't have a water feature that would make your garden appear more comforting and close to nature. Of course, you'll never ran out of water features to use for your outdoor space; from ponds and streams, to pools and water spouts, there are definitely wide selections to choose from. Yet, constructing these fixtures could waste your time, energy and money; what you need is a water feature that you could install and maintain easily and would not cost you an arm and a leg, and this is when a wall fountain would be helpful.

Wall fountain is a relatively new concept when it comes to fountain design. As its name connotes, this water feature is installed on a wall. It takes up very little space and is ideally suited for small areas but also works well with large ones. Wall mounted fountains can be attached in differing ways; some designs especially those made from natural stones make use of mortars with special T-block supports or decorative braces, while some especially those made from synthetic materials come with mounting hardware.

Wall fountain designs are nearly infinite, but most of the time they feature a jet of water sprinkling to a basin or trough, capable of creating a focal point on your garden wall. One of the most favorite designs when it comes to wall-mounted fountains is that of the artisan finish wherein hand carved heads of various characters ranging from angels, lions and mythological characters serves as the main design features of the fixtures. Wall shell or bowl fountains are also preferable choices credited to the series of basins they hold where water cascade gracefully and produces a delightful stream-like sound. They work well for classic looking landscapes and gardens, and are also suitable for personal outdoor spaces in urban areas as they control the amount of noise coming from roadways.

If you outdoor space is wide and plants would not suffice the design plan you intend to incorporate, floor fountains would be the most ideal water features to use. As a matter of fact, they are probably the most sophisticated and deliberate means to integrate the element of water on your landscape. In the right settings, these free standing water features often become the signature fixtures of landscapes. Along with creating a visual impact, these fountains also evoke a comforting sensation through the splashing sound that the water produces.

Various floor fountains achieve different effects and purposes though they mainly function as decorative centerpieces. Like the wall-mounted ones, floor jets also come in various styles and sizes, and each of them befit all sorts of gardens fairly well. Ornamental statuary fountains are among the most popular since they hold large statues of differing characters; they are ideal for large courtyards and centerpieces for gardens and lawns. Birdbaths are also enticing floor water features that serve dual functions""aside from being decorative features they are also ideal resting place for birds.

If space is really tight on your outdoor space; say you only have a balcony that could only hold a comfortable lounge set, it is still possible to integrate the element of water on your design by using a tabletop water fountain. Similar to its large counterparts, this small water feature could also spruce up the appearance of your balcony and transform it into the most ideal location for conversations. There are wide varieties of design to choose from that would permit you to maintain your balcony's design continuity. Some are designed to look like flower vases completer with intricate floral designs, while others are constructed from natural rocks, giving them their natural touch.

Water features always complete the look of landscapes. While ponds and streams are always good options, they are not cost-efficient and easy to install. In place of these you could use floor fountains as centerpieces or if you really have very limited outdoor floor space and would like to make your garden wall the focal point of your design, make use of wall fountain instead. For very tight-spaced patio though, a tabletop water fountain would suffice.
